ajax is really cool

Ajax is a new technology that's been sweeping the web 2.0 scene and it's really really neat so I thought I'd post on my "blog" about it.

Ajax is a totally new invention in the last two months. The word ajax is itself an acronym (how cool is that), standing for "Asynchronous JS and XWS" where JS stands for JavaScript.

What does Ajax do, you ask? Well it's really a mixture of things, but it all comes down to two key concepts, "asynchronous" and "XWS".

Let's take the asynchronous first. Synchronomy, as you have probably guessed, is a word created by combining "syn" (meaning synthetic or man made) with the greek base "chromo" having to do with colors. The "a" prefix is a negation, so "asynchonous" means "non-artificially colored".

As soon as you start to think along the lines of a web 2.0 where the "non-artificially colored" concept can also now apply to websites you really start to grasp the power of ajax.

"XWS" or eXtensible Web Services provide the other half of the ajax picture. Imagine a world where you can connect with people on the other side of the planet, where the democratization of ideas combines with self discoverable meta data and you can really start to see how this whole thing could take off.
