steep trail down a ridge to the river
I hiked down to the river in a spot I went to a couple time last year. The river has a powder blue glacial look to it at this time of year.

The river goes around a bend here. It's deep and fast, no whitewater but a very quick, powerful flow.

I want to go again in a couple weeks. I went last spring and the sun hitting the river gave it a green glow that was just amazing. I don't think the sun ever quite hits the water at this time of year, though it was getting close just as I was leaving this time.

rocks willows water

I just really like the way these rocks are arranged against the water and just fringed with little willow twigs. (comments and photo)

sunlight around the river bend

Sunlight is just around the corner; the river is as cold as it looks. (comments and photo)

racoon prints

The sand looks just grey, but takes a blue tint from the light of the sky and reflection from the river. (comments and photo)

sunny ledge - waterfall joining river

The sun came down onto the tops of the rocks just as I was leaving. Here sun drenched moss and tiny bushes frame a view of a little waterfall and the shadowy, dusty blue water. (comments and photo)

sand and water

Underwater recently... the amount and shape of the sand here was determined by the hydraulics of the water over the surrounding rocks. (comments and photo)

river rock

The moss and tiny ferns cling to the lee underside of this rock, footnotes to its substance. (comments and photo)
